Turning Science into Movement: TurningPoint Magazine and Littlecab Join Young Scientists Kenya

Where Science Meets Grassroots Storytelling

On August 8, 2026, the Moi Girls High School grounds in Nairobi were buzzing with creative energy as the 9th Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) National Science & Technology Exhibition reached its peak. In a strategic partnership with Littlecab, TurningPoint Magazine Africa was on the ground to connect with the heart of the exhibition: the dedicated teachers and brilliant students representing schools from every corner of Kenya.

While students showcased ground-breaking projects in artificial intelligence, climate resilience, and renewable energy, our team immersed them in discussions about the power of narrative, representation, and grassroots storytelling.

Grassroots Voices: Direct Insights from Teachers and Students

Over the course of the day, our booth and interactive sessions became a hub for insightful dialogues with educators and young learners countrywide.

1. Empowering Educators as Agents of Change:

   Teachers from hardship areas shared the daily hurdles of teaching STEM with limited resources, while celebrating the resilience of their students. We discussed how digital platforms like TurningPoint Magazine can serve as vital tools for educational exposure, connecting rural teachers with national networks and resources.

2. Inspiring Young Girls in Marginalized Areas:

   Students - particularly young girls from rural counties and refugee schools - shared their journeys of transforming everyday community challenges into award-winning scientific projects. We indulged them in how sharing their stories helps break patriarchal stereotypes and encourages more young women to enter STEM fields.

3. Demystifying AI and STEM:

   In line with this year's theme of shaping Kenya's AI future, students discussed how emerging technologies can be demystified and made accessible to grassroots communities, ensuring that technology serves everyone, not just urban hubs.

Why Storytelling Matters in STEM

Science creates solutions, but storytelling creates movement.

Through our joint engagement with Littlecab, we emphasized to the young participants that their innovations gain maximum power when accompanied by compelling narratives. Whether it's an AI tool for drought prediction or an affordable healthcare app, telling the human story behind the science attracts mentors, investors, and policymakers.

Teachers welcomed TurningPoint Magazine's initiative to offer students a platform where their voices and innovations can be celebrated globally.
