My LinkedIn journey began with inconsistent engagement in 2021. Even though I have been having a LinkedIn account from 2016, I was never active until I began posting on LinkedIn actively in 2022.
It’s been an incredible journey full of learning and has also opened many doors. There is no magic to growth on LinkedIn. Like any other social or professional platforms, the rule of the game remains the same, identifying your target audience then consistently delivering value.
Defining the value, you want to give or the problem you would like to solve
Start by knowing the problem you want to solve. This can be drawn from your expertise in a certain field, your passions and interests, from your own pain points or unpleasant experiences. Once this is clear, you can easily craft a strong value proposition to quickly win your audience's attention.
Understanding your target audience
Identifying your target audience is the second important step after defining your value proposition. One mistake most creators do is addressing everyone. You cannot target everyone. Just like the way companies design products and services targeting specific groups, so should your LinkedIn content target a specific target audience.
Having a captivating LinkedIn profile
After doing all this, work on your LinkedIn profile and ensure it communicates what you would want your audience to know you for.
Being consistent in offering that solution
Consistency is what makes you become a master of your craft and an authority in the area you choose. In addition, consistency is a proven strategy to elevate your personal brand and constantly stay in your audience's mind.
Deeply connecting with your audience through meaningful engagements
Success on LinkedIn goes beyond just posting content. It digs into the level of engagement you have with your community. Creating a loyal community calls for constant meaningful engagement. One way to achieve this is engaging with your community on your posts or organizing LinkedIn live sessions to get your audience's feedback.
Standout LinkedIn Profile
A standout profile must instantly demonstrate the value you offer the moment they visit your profile, including:
- A catchy LinkedIn banner: Having a good banner with a brief call to action can be a game changer to your branding on LinkedIn. Making your profile visitors instantly understand the action you want.
- A great headline: This should be a concise summary of your expertise, industry, and value proposition. It acts as your elevator pitch, catchy enough to instantly inform your audience of what you offer.
- A professional headshot: Avoid casual photos like selfies; have a good-looking professional headshot.
- A well-crafted about section: This is a powerful space to tell your story and how you solve your audience's problem, make good use of it.
- Well-detailed list of experience: List your experience and each share the achievement that stands out.
- A well-detailed featured section: A link to your portfolio to showcase to your clients you can be among the items to list on your featured section. People want to work with someone with a track record of success. Showcase your previous work by leading your target audience to your portfolio.
- A list of your skills: You can list your key skills and ask colleagues to endorse you. While doing this, be sure to highlight skills that are in demand in your industry.
- Recommendations: Getting people you have worked with to give you recommendations is a great way to enhance the visibility of your profile.
